Emil Agyekum secured the silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, marking a significant achievement in his career. The 27-year-old athlete clocked 47.87 seconds, finishing only behind the dominant Norwegian hurdler Karsten Warholm.

The bronze medal went to Turkey's Ismail Nezir with a time of 48.26 seconds. Germany's second finalist, Owe Fischer-Breiholz, finished fifth in 48.56 seconds. Agyekum's silver medal is particularly noteworthy as it ends a long medal drought for Germany in the men's 400-meter hurdles. The last German to medal in this event was Harald Schmid, who won gold in 1986.
