Ahudiyannem FC boss rallies stakeholders to save Nigerian football

Dr. Robert Onyeani, CEO of Ahudiyannem FC, has appealed to key stakeholders in Nigerian football to set aside their differences and unite for the advancement of the sport in the country. This plea comes in the wake of recent qualification failures for the national teams, the Super Falcons and the Super Eagles, and amid controversy surrounding the upcoming Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) election.

Onyeani stressed that Nigerian football requires unity, shared responsibility, and a clear vision to regain its prominence on the international stage. He described Nigeria's failure to qualify for the last FIFA World Cup as a significant blow to the nation's football reputation, urging it to serve as a wake-up call for all involved in the game's administration and development.

Nigerian football stakeholders must come together in unity and bring our football to a greater state once again. There is no need for disagreement because, at the end of the day, it is football that suffers.

Looking ahead to the NFF election scheduled for September 27 in Katsina, Onyeani believes that bringing together experienced administrators, club owners, coaches, and former players can help address some of Nigeria's football challenges. He advocates for the development of a unified roadmap for the future, emphasizing the importance of talent discovery, courage, and calculated risks, particularly in nurturing the Super Falcons.

Onyeani highlighted Nigeria's abundant grassroots talent, stating that discovering these players is only the first step. He stressed the need for robust structures to nurture talent, provide opportunities, and empower emerging players. His own club, Ahudiyannem FC, a grassroots team, achieved national recognition by winning the 2025 Abia State FA Cup, defeating established professional clubs, which he cited as proof of untapped talent outside traditional football centers. Onyeani urged stakeholders to leverage current challenges as an opportunity for rebuilding rather than deepening divisions, reiterating that unity is essential for moving Nigerian football forward.
