Dolphins to begin WBPL title defence against First Deep Water

Dolphins Women Basketball Club is set to begin the defense of their NBBF/Zenith Bank Women Basketball Premier League title against First Deep Water this Sunday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The reigning champions secured their second title last year with a 61-55 victory over First Bank in the final playoff game. After a decade-long wait for their second championship, Dolphins will aim to avoid another extended drought as they commence their campaign against one of the league's established teams.

The opening day of the Atlantic Conference will feature other matchups, including IGP Queens against newcomers Victoria Queens, and last year’s runners-up First Bank facing Royal Aces. Additionally, two-time winners MFM will compete against Bayelsa Blue Whales.

The Savannah Conference is scheduled to tip off two days later, on Tuesday, August 18. The opening game will pit Air Warriors against Kada Angels, followed by Nasarawa Amazons versus Ham Warriors and Titans against Nigeria Customs. The day's games will conclude with a match between Aso Sky Queens and Plateau Rocks. The Atlantic Conference games will run until August 22, while the Savannah Conference, held at the Basketball Arena in Jos, will conclude its first phase on Monday, August 24.
