AHY: Government moves quickly to handle NTT earthquake disaster

The Indonesian government is demonstrating a swift and coordinated response to the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), according to Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY).

President Prabowo Subianto has directed all government bodies to act quickly and cohesively in managing the disaster's aftermath. AHY stated that the primary focus is ensuring affected communities receive immediate assistance, aid, and necessary services. Efforts are also underway to restore access to the affected regions to prevent delays in emergency response.

The government is moving quickly. The most important thing is to ensure that the affected communities receive the help, assistance, and services they need. Access to the affected areas must also be ensured immediately so that the emergency response process is not hindered.

Central government officials have been deployed to key locations such as Labuan Bajo and Maumere to directly supervise the relief operations on the ground. The government's immediate priorities include the evacuation and rescue of victims, the distribution of aid, reopening severed access routes, and restoring essential services and connectivity for the residents.

Tens of thousands of staple food packages, funded by Presidential Aid (Banpres), have been dispatched to support the affected population. Relevant ministries and agencies are actively engaged in their respective roles to manage the situation. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development is consolidating actions among the Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Transportation, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), regional governments, and other stakeholders to ensure a unified and efficient response.

AHY also conveyed deep condolences on behalf of the government and himself to those who lost family members or suffered injuries and losses due to the earthquake. He assured the people of NTT that the government would remain present throughout the emergency response phase and into the recovery process, urging national solidarity and support for the affected communities.
