AI fatigue is real: Experts warn of user burnout from overwhelming technology

While generative artificial intelligence tools are widely used and offer significant convenience, users can experience "AI fatigue" when they cannot achieve the desired results or try to utilize too many different AI applications. Yaşar Şekerci, an expert evaluating AI tool usage, noted that these technologies excel in routine and repetitive tasks but are not yet at the desired level for tasks requiring research, analysis, decision-making, and original creation.

Şekerci explained that AI struggles with understanding the context and depth of a subject, often relying on continuous follow-up questions to grasp the user's needs. This gap between user expectations and the technology's current limitations can lead to repeated attempts to get a better output. The issue is compounded by the vast array of AI tools available, including those for visual generation, video, audio, and transcription, beyond general models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.

"If you try to test all AI tools, use all of them, and move forward by trying every tool, this can lead to AI fatigue," Şekerci warned. He also pointed to "FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)" and "FOBO (Fear of Better Options)" as contributing factors, where the rapid advancement of technology creates pressure on users to constantly track new tools. Şekerci emphasized that not every tool is necessary for everyone, and mastering a few relevant tools for personal needs may suffice.

Şekerci stressed the importance of a critical approach to AI literacy. AI-generated outputs should not be accepted at face value, as AI can produce results that appear correct but are not based on reality, a phenomenon known as AI hallucination. He advised a balanced trust approach, stating, "Instead of completely trusting AI or always approaching everything with suspicion, it is important to always check and verify." Şekerci likened the role of an AI user to an orchestra conductor, managing various AI tools to achieve a specific outcome.
