AI·SW-Centered University Council Holds Workshop on Educational Innovation for AX Era

The AI and Software-Centered University Council convened its '2026 AI·SW-Centered University Workshop' in Jeju, bringing together 60 universities to explore strategies for educational innovation in the era of AI Transformation (AX). The two-day event, held at Maison Glad Hotel Jeju, focused on enhancing university-level AI and software education to meet the rapidly evolving demands for talent.

This workshop, supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'SW-Centered University Project,' included 50 established SW-centered universities and 10 newly designated AI-centered universities. The primary goal was to share best practices and strengthen inter-university cooperation in adapting existing software education frameworks to an AI-centric approach.

The first day featured an opening ceremony followed by thematic presentations from eight universities across four key areas: AI/SW major education, AI/SW convergence/foundational education, industry-academia collaboration/global education, and AI/SW value dissemination. Notable case studies included Kyung Hee University's use of generative AI in introductory programming, Yeungnam University's personalized support programs, and Gyeonggi University's AI-powered virtual enterprise simulations.

A panel discussion on 'Challenges and Opportunities in SW Education for the AX Era' featured experts from academia and industry, including representatives from Pusan National University, Sungkyunkwan University, the National AI Strategy Committee, Databricks Korea, and Le Monde. The second day is scheduled for the 40th meeting of AI·SW-Centered University project leaders to discuss future development directions and collaboration strategies.

Shin Yong-tae, Chairman of the AI·SW-Centered University Council, emphasized that "AI·SW education in the AI Transformation (AX) era must go beyond simple technology acquisition to cultivate convergent talent capable of responding to industrial and societal changes." He highlighted the workshop as a meaningful forum for sharing achievements and charting a collaborative course, pledging continued efforts to enhance inter-university exchange and advance AI·SW talent cultivation.
