Air Peace warns of flight disruptions after aircraft damaged in ground incident

Nigerian airline Air Peace is warning of significant disruptions to its domestic flight schedule after one of its Airbus A320 aircraft sustained severe damage while parked at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 in Lagos.

One of its Airbus A320 aircraft sustained significant damage on the ground today at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1, Lagos, after a Nigerian Aviation Handling Company baggage conveyor belt vehicle crashed into the aircraft’s engine shortly after the completion of Flight P47427 from Kano and the safe disembarkation of passengers.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night shortly after the aircraft completed Flight P47427 from Kano and passengers had safely disembarked. A baggage conveyor belt vehicle, operated by the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO), collided with one of the aircraft's engines, causing extensive damage.

According to a statement from Air Peace, the impact rendered the aircraft "totally unserviceable." This is a significant blow to the airline's operations, as the damaged aircraft was scheduled to operate multiple flights across its network in the coming days. The airline noted that NAHCO equipment had previously damaged an Air Peace aircraft on December 26, 2025.

The ground handling equipment belonging to and operated by NAHCO tore into the aircraft and, as such, rendered the aircraft totally unserviceable.

Air Peace has cautioned passengers that several scheduled services will likely experience delays, and some may be canceled altogether. The airline is currently working to mitigate the impact by redeploying aircraft from its fleet and making necessary adjustments to its schedule. The airline expressed apologies to passengers whose travel plans might be affected and assured them that its teams are working to provide alternative arrangements where possible.

Consequently, several scheduled services will experience delays, while some may regrettably be cancelled as we work to mitigate the disruption through fleet adjustments.
