Air strikes kill terrorists, troops foil attacks in Zamfara, Katsina

Nigerian troops have successfully thwarted coordinated terrorist assaults in Zamfara and Katsina states, neutralizing a notorious commander and recovering significant combat equipment. The Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, acted on intelligence to prevent attacks on communities, engaging terrorists in fierce gun battles.

Working alongside local security volunteers, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle and repelled the assault, forcing the attackers to retreat with several casualties.

In Zamfara, troops supported by local volunteers repelled an assault on Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, forcing attackers to retreat with casualties. A notorious terrorist commander, Alhaji Tukur, identified as the brother of a kingpin, was killed during a separate operation responding to an attack on farmers. In another incident, troops killed one terrorist and recovered a motorcycle after an encounter in Sabon Gari.

The military also reported success in Katsina State, where troops overwhelmed terrorists along the Danmusa–Yantumaki axis, recovering two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle. Demonstrating effective air-land coordination, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma intercepted and bombarded a large convoy of approximately 300 terrorists on motorcycles moving towards the Bayazaki riverine area.

On sighting the advancing troops, the terrorists abandoned their mission and fled into nearby bushes. A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the neutralisation of one terrorist and the recovery of a motorcycle used by the fleeing terrorists.
