Airborne car hits Brisbane bus in new CCTV vision

New CCTV footage has emerged showing the precise moment an airborne car collided with a Brisbane City Council bus. The incident occurred on July 29 at the intersection of Beaudesert and Granard Roads in Rocklea.

The vision, captured from inside the bus, reveals the hatchback launching into the side of the vehicle. Emergency services were called to the scene around 6:30 p.m.

Brisbane's Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner, commended the bus driver's composure. "The driver went straight into action and assisted the driver of the car," Schrinner said on ABC radio. He noted the driver, who has served the council for at least seven years, has a strong record and received numerous public commendations.

The 45-year-old woman driving the car was taken to hospital in shock, but fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The bus was en route to its depot with only the driver and his wife aboard at the time of the crash.

Police reported that the driver of a black SsangYong vehicle attempted to merge from a center lane and turn near the intersection. The SsangYong driver, a 66-year-old man from Durack, was subsequently fined $690 and received three demerit points for driving without due care and attention.
