Ajax officially signs Marc-Andre ter Stegen on loan from Barcelona

Dutch football giant Ajax Amsterdam has officially announced the signing of experienced goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Barcelona. The German international joins the club on a season-long loan, which will keep him at Ajax until the end of the 2026/2027 season.

Ajax's Technical Director, Jordi Cruijff, expressed his delight at the acquisition, describing Ter Stegen as a vital reinforcement for the squad managed by Michel Sanchez. Cruijff highlighted the 34-year-old's impressive track record and widespread recognition as one of Europe's most seasoned goalkeepers. "He will be an immediate asset to our squad. Marc and I know each other well, and I look forward to working with him again," Cruijff stated.

Ter Stegen began his professional career at Borussia Mönchengladbach before moving to Barcelona in 2014. During his time with his hometown club, he made 127 appearances. Since joining Barcelona, he has played 423 times, securing numerous prestigious titles, including the UEFA Champions League and seven domestic league championships. The 44-cap German international also has a prior connection with Ajax's current coach, Michel Sanchez, having been on loan at Girona FC during the second half of the 2025/2026 season when Sanchez was in charge.
