AJK election schedule revised for third phase due to law and order concerns

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission announced Friday a revised schedule for the third phase of regional elections, citing concerns over the law and order situation. Polling in seven of the 11 constituencies within the Poonch Division has been postponed.

The electoral process, however, will continue as planned on August 10 for the remaining four constituencies in the Poonch Division. These include districts such as Bagh and Haveli, according to the commission's press release.

Poonch Division is comprised of 11 constituencies: three in Bagh, one in Haveli, five in Poonch, and two in Sudhnoti. The elections are being conducted across the region in three phases amidst ongoing tensions between protesters and authorities.

Elections in the Mirpur and Muzaffarabad divisions were completed on July 27 and August 2, respectively. The third phase, now partially postponed in Poonch Division, was originally set for August 10.
