AKP's Türkeş Slams MHP Over Treatment of Sister, MP Ayyüce Türkeş

AKP lawmaker Tuğrul Türkeş has sharply criticized members of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) for their "deplorable" and "aggressive" conduct towards his sister, IYI Party Member of Parliament Ayyüce Türkeş. The incident took place during a parliamentary commission meeting discussing a "framework law."

Ayyüce Türkeş had previously described the actions of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli as "filth" and stated that the politics of the late MHP founder Alparslan Türkeş, her father, had ended in 1997. She added that while she respected the current leader, he could not "whitewash his own filth" by invoking Alparslan Türkeş's name.

In response, an MHP member, identified as Bülbül, reportedly slammed his hand on the table and told Ayyüce Türkeş to "watch your mouth, you are the filth!"

Following this exchange, Tuğrul Türkeş, an AKP member and Ayyüce's brother, expressed his dismay. In a statement titled "I am sorry," he wrote, "On a very critical issue that directly concerns the future of our country and nation, and which of course needs to be discussed, I find the intolerance and aggressive behavior displayed towards a lady, a member of parliament, who belongs to the family of the Deceased they claim to have raised, solely for expressing her democratic criticisms, to be horrifying." He added, "At a minimum, I would have expected one-tenth of the tolerance shown to terrorists to be shown to a lady and member of parliament who, in her own words, has committed no crime, not even any organizational membership."
