Akwa Ibom Governor Inspects New Airbus A220 Ahead of Ibom Air Delivery

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has conducted a pre-delivery inspection of the state-owned airline's newest Airbus A220-300 aircraft in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada. The inspection at the Airbus production facility marks a significant step in strengthening Ibom Air's fleet and operational capabilities.

This aircraft is the third brand-new Airbus A220-300 to be delivered to Ibom Air as part of its current fleet expansion. It is slated to commence operations before the upcoming Christmas and year-end travel period. The addition is anticipated to increase the airline's capacity, offer greater scheduling flexibility, and provide passengers with more reliable travel options.

Governor Eno expressed satisfaction with the aircraft's quality, design, and advanced technology, stating that its acquisition aligns with his administration's commitment to positioning Ibom Air for sustained growth and competitiveness. He emphasized that the investment extends beyond fleet expansion, aiming to enhance operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and service delivery while broadening Ibom Air's network.

The enhanced connectivity facilitated by the new aircraft is also expected to bolster Akwa Ibom's tourism sector. By improving access to the state, the airline aims to attract more visitors, promote the "Destination Akwa Ibom" initiative, and stimulate trade and investment opportunities. Ibom Air, wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, has been a leading Nigerian airline since its launch in 2019 and expanded into international routes in June 2026.
