U.S. Mission Welcomes Hudspeth as New Consul General to Lagos

Brandon Hudspeth has begun his tenure as the new U.S. Consul General in Lagos, Nigeria, returning to a city where he previously served from 2020 to 2022. He will lead U.S. government representation across 17 southern Nigerian states for the next three years, succeeding Rick Swart.

Hudspeth expressed his honor in resuming his diplomatic assignment, emphasizing the strong partnership between Nigeria and the United States. "I know firsthand the strength of the U.S.-Nigeria partnership and the extraordinary energy, ingenuity, and entrepreneurial spirit that Nigerians and Americans share," he stated. He looks forward to strengthening existing relationships and forging new ones to expand trade and investment, foster innovation, and enhance collaboration in the technology and creative sectors.

With two decades of diplomatic experience across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Washington D.C., Hudspeth's background includes serving as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia. His previous roles involved leading U.S. civilian assistance programs in the Philippines, and political-economic and consular work in Mali, Cuba, and Afghanistan. He also held positions within the Department of State in Washington.

A native of Texas, Hudspeth is an alumnus of Morehouse College and Harvard University's Kennedy School, holding degrees in Political Science, Economics, and Public Policy. He also earned a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University.
