Akwa Ibom State Earns Four Continental Honours for Governance and Security

Akwa Ibom State has garnered four prestigious continental honors at the 19th Security Watch Africa Conference and Awards held in Banjul, The Gambia. The accolades underscore the Nigerian state's growing reputation for people-centered governance, development, and effective security management.

Governor Umo Eno was recognized as the African Leader in People-Centric Governance for 2025. Additionally, Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare received the award for Best Anti-Crime Bursting Police Chief in West & Central Africa in 2025. Chief Superintendent of Police Besta Sini John was honored as the Best Close Protection Police Officer in West & Central Africa in 2025, and the Akwa Ibom State Police Command was named the Most Proactive Police Command in Nigeria in 2025.

Representing Governor Eno, Deputy Governor Dr. Akon Etim Eyakenyi highlighted the administration's governance model, emphasizing that governance is about improving citizens' lives through service delivery, sustainable development, and shared prosperity. The state was described as peaceful, enterprising, hospitable, and rich in natural and human resources.

Governor Eno expressed gratitude to Security Watch Africa for its platform in addressing security issues and fostering solutions among policymakers and experts. The awards serve as a validation of the state's deliberate policies driving its transformation and its commitment to security and leadership rooted in service to the people.
