Al-Jawf governor tells Okaz: Defeating the Houthis is the key to Yemen’s future

Yemen’s Al-Jawf province is being presented as a key battleground in the country’s future, with its strategic location, tribal connections and economic and historical potential giving it influence beyond its borders.

In an interview with Okaz, Governor Hussein al-Aji al-Awadi discussed the province’s challenges and its role in confronting the Houthi movement. He also offered his assessment of what he called the “battle of deliverance” and described Al-Jawf as an important pillar in any coming shift in Yemen’s political and military landscape.

Al-Awadi said conditions in Al-Jawf do not differ greatly from those in other Yemeni provinces controlled by the Houthis. He emphasized that the province remains an integral part of Yemen and that its residents are part of the Yemeni people.

The governor also spoke about Saudi support for Yemen and the people of Al-Jawf. He outlined the province’s hopes for stronger service and economic links with the kingdom, while describing a future Yemen free of what he called the Iranian project and built on equal citizenship and equal opportunity.
