Al-Nassr set historic scoring record despite defeat by Al-Ittihad

Al-Nassr made league history even in defeat, scoring for the 92nd consecutive match in the Saudi Roshn League. Angelo Gabriel scored the Riyadh club’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to Al-Ittihad in the fifth round.

The streak is the longest in the history of the competition. Al-Nassr last failed to score on December 1, 2023, when traditional rival Al-Hilal won 3-0.

The loss also ended Ange Postecoglou’s perfect start as Al-Nassr coach. The Australian had led the team to victories in its first four league matches and in its King’s Cup round-of-32 tie. Despite the setback, the opening five-match run remained the best start of his club coaching career.

Postecoglou, 61, had previously suffered early defeats in other coaching positions. He lost his opening match with South Melbourne against Vasco da Gama at the 2000 Club World Cup and suffered a 4-0 defeat by Kastoria in his second match with Greek club Panachaiki.
