Alaves rout Getafe as new La Liga season begins

Alaves began their La Liga campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over 10-man Getafe on Saturday. The match, which marked the start of the 2026/27 season, saw Getafe's hopes significantly hampered by Kiko Femenia's red card for a high lunge late in the first half.

Nahuel Tenaglia opened the scoring for Alaves in the 73rd minute, nodding home the opener. The lead was extended in stoppage time by former Real Madrid striker Mariano, who curled a shot from the edge of the box into the net. Mikel Rodriguez then sealed the emphatic win, smashing home a third goal after being set up by Mariano as Getafe's defense crumbled in the closing moments.

The season's opening weekend continues with several other fixtures, including Sevilla hosting Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal visiting promoted side Racing Santander on Sunday. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid is set to play Malaga on Wednesday, and champions Barcelona will face Elche on August 23. Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid will begin their season the following weekend against Espanyol on August 22.
