Alba Berlin wins preseason basketball friendly against Hamburg

Alba Berlin's basketball team has kicked off their preseason with a victory, defeating league competitor Veolia Towers Hamburg 89-83 in a friendly match at the Sömmeringhalle. This win marks a positive start for coach Pedro Calles' squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The preseason friendly served as an opportunity for Alba to avenge two league defeats they suffered against Hamburg during the previous season. The team showed strong performance, with several players contributing significantly to the score. The 17-year-old emerging talent Fin Borczanowski led the scoring with 14 points, closely followed by new acquisition Joe Wieskamp and Sam Griesel, who both netted 11 points.

Alba Berlin played without several key players who were away on international duty. Martin Hermannsson was representing Iceland, and Malte Delow was with Germany's national team. Additionally, captain Jonas Mattisseck was absent for personal reasons, and point guard Jack Kayil was rested for the match. Despite these absences, the team secured a solid win against their Bundesliga rivals.

Looking ahead, Alba Berlin has another test match scheduled for next Sunday in Oranienburg against the Rostock Seawolves. Their first official competitive game of the season is set for September 18, when they will host the Niners Chemnitz. Meanwhile, the Alba women's team also achieved success in their preseason, decisively beating their cooperation partner TuS Lichterfelde 107-57 in a match played at the same venue.
