Extreme Sports Couple Completes 24,000km European Cycling Tour

After months on the road and thousands of kilometers, extreme athletes Jonas Deichmann and Josefine Rutkowski have successfully completed an ambitious cycling tour circumnavigating Europe. The couple arrived back in Munich, their starting point, having covered approximately 24,000 kilometers.

Their journey began on April 25th, and for each day, they spent roughly nine hours cycling. Deichmann described the experience as taxing on their reserves, particularly noting the difficulties in securing supplies in Eastern Europe. Despite the physical demands, the couple found inspiration in the diverse landscapes and the hospitality they encountered across the 27 countries they visited.

Nine hours in the saddle every day for such a long period without a rest day drains the reserves - especially since the supply options were very difficult, particularly in Eastern Europe.

Due to the ongoing conflict, Deichmann and Rutkowski chose to avoid cycling through Russia and Ukraine. Their route followed the borders of Europe in a clockwise direction. They managed the entire tour without a support team, carrying their own luggage and provisions, adding another layer of challenge to their expedition.

This feat adds to Deichmann's reputation for extreme athletic endeavors. He is known for completing 120 long-distance triathlons in 120 days in Roth, Germany. Rutkowski, a former teacher, met Deichmann during one of his projects and has accompanied him on several expeditions. Deichmann is already planning his next challenge: running 30 marathons in 30 consecutive days across Baden-Württemberg to raise funds for the charity initiative 'MOVE IT!'.
