Albares meets Latin American foreign ministers to boost Madrid summit

Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has advanced preparations for the upcoming Ibero-American Summit in Madrid, scheduled for November 4-5. Albares held meetings with his counterparts from Bolivia, Chile, and Peru, as well as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Omar Bula Escobar.

During his visit to Colombia for the inauguration of President Abelardo de la Espriella, Albares congratulated Minister Bula and discussed bilateral relations with the other South American foreign ministers. He also spoke by phone with Venezuela's Minister of Foreign Relations and Foreign Trade, Félix Plasencia, extending congratulations and expressing Spain's willingness to support Venezuela's humanitarian response to recent earthquakes.

Spain aims for the Madrid Summit to deliver concrete, consensus-driven results that address shared priorities among the 22 member countries of the Ibero-American Community. Albares emphasized the summit's significance in reaffirming the value of a political consultation space that connects 680 million people across the Atlantic and Spain's commitment to a strengthening Europe-Ibero-America relationship.

The summit will be structured around three thematic pillars: sustainability and environment; innovation and social inclusion; and childhood and youth. Albares urged his counterparts to actively participate in the final preparatory stages, including ministerial meetings, sectoral forums, and coordination meetings leading up to November.
