Alberto 'Betón' Lizárraga, son of Banda El Recodo founder, dies

Alberto 'Betón' Lizárraga, a member of the renowned Lizárraga musical dynasty and son of Banda El Recodo founder Cruz Lizárraga, passed away on Wednesday, August 12. His death was confirmed by his brothers, José Ángel and Germán Lizárraga, who took to social media to express their grief and bid farewell to their sibling.

José Ángel Lizárraga shared a heartfelt tribute, remembering Alberto not just as a brother but as a life companion, support, and friend. "You were more than my brother, you were my life companion, my support, and my friend," he wrote, adding, "Thank you for your love, for your example, and for always being with me. I know you are now in the arms of our Heavenly Father, in peace and without pain. I will always carry you in my heart. Rest in peace, dear brother. We will meet again in eternity."

Germán Lizárraga, who recently mourned the loss of his daughter Yolanda Lizárraga, also expressed sorrow over his brother's passing. The Banda Estrellas de Sinaloa, an ensemble led by Germán, issued a statement conveying their condolences to the entire Lizárraga family. "Today our hearts ache as we accompany our leader and friend Germán Lizárraga and his entire family through the sensitive passing of his dear brother, Alberto Lizárraga Lizárraga," the statement read.

The Lizárraga family's legacy in Mexican music is significant, with Cruz Lizárraga establishing Banda El Recodo in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, in 1938. The band grew to become a leading exponent of Mexican banda music, with several of Cruz's children continuing the musical tradition. The cause of Alberto 'Betón' Lizárraga's death has not yet been disclosed by the family.
