Alberto Campo Makes Historic Debut with Argentina's Racing Club

Ecuadorian footballer Alberto Campo etched his name in history on August 14, 2026, when he debuted for Argentina's prestigious Racing Club. Campo became the third Ecuadorian player to don the first team's jersey, achieving this milestone as a champion of the Reserve Tournament and recognized as a significant youth prospect.

Born in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, Campo, who stands at 1.86 meters and weighs 71 kg, is a right-footed player capable of operating as a striker or an inverted winger. His versatility and skill on the wing caught the attention of scouts shortly after his arrival at the club earlier this year. His transfer from Atlético Samborondón, a team in Ecuador's Second Category, was announced with an emotional video, highlighting his contributions both on and off the field.

Campo's move to Racing was not without its initial hurdles. Atlético Samborondón's announcement led to a temporary denial from Racing, who were reportedly unaware of the specifics of the operation. Amidst this administrative confusion, Campo began his adaptation at the Predio Tita Mattiussi. Once the situation was resolved, he quickly impressed Sebastián “Chirola” Romero, who promoted him to the reserve team. There, Campo flourished, contributing three goals and five assists in the first half of the season, playing a crucial role in the team's championship run, including key performances in the playoffs against rivals like Independiente, Vélez Sarsfield, and River Plate.

Campo's debut for the first team came in a league match against Banfield at the Estadio Cilindro de Avellaneda. He entered the game in the 60th minute, wearing jersey number 35. Despite Racing's 0-1 defeat, Campo's appearance marked a significant personal achievement and a hopeful sign for the club's future, given his potential.
