Aldo Mariños denies security link to witness in Trujillo massacre case: “I will investigate who he is”

Former Pataz mayor and La Libertad regional governor candidate Aldo Carlos Mariños has firmly denied a witness’s claim linking him to a supposed fake police officer present at the scene of a quadruple killing in Trujillo.

According to the witness statement given to prosecutors, the alleged fake officer worked as part of Mariños’ security detail. Mariños rejected both the claim and any connection with the witness. He said he has no security personnel, does not pay for protection services and does not provide security to third parties.

“ I firmly reject the statements made by that witness and ask the competent authorities to thoroughly investigate his identity and the motives behind his statements,” Mariños said. He asked the Interior Ministry to examine who the witness is and the substance of the testimony, saying the accusations damaged his honor and reputation.

Mariños also said he was considering a criminal defamation complaint against the person who connected him to the alleged security agent. “I will investigate who that person is so I can file a criminal complaint for defamation and for mentioning my name without evidence,” he said.

The dispute comes as prosecutors continue gathering testimony and other evidence to establish the circumstances of the Trujillo quadruple killing and determine who took part in the attack.
