Aleksić: Serbia's budget rebalance is electoral; government's policy is trickery

Miroslav Aleksić, the president of the People's Movement of Serbia (NPS), has sharply criticized the Serbian government's proposed budget rebalance, labeling it an "electoral" maneuver designed to mislead citizens. Speaking during a parliamentary session, Aleksić asserted that the ruling party is employing "shibicar" or trickster politics, expressing hope that voters will recognize this tactic in the upcoming elections.

Aleksić accused the current authorities of demonstrating no genuine concern for the populace, suggesting their sudden attention to citizens is purely a pre-election tactic. He invoked the proverb, "Do not trust the Danaans even when they bring gifts," adapting it to warn against trusting the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) "even when it brings gifts." He painted a grim picture of Serbia, stating that "everything is burning" and that the fires will not cease until citizens are freed from the "shackles" of the current government, which he accused of widespread crime and corruption.

The NPS leader further alleged that President Aleksandar Vučić has stripped citizens of their dignity, forcing them to plead for basic services like road asphalt or employment. Aleksić contends that this situation arises because "there is no system in Serbia" and that the government, in collusion with criminals, has "stolen the state." He directly accused the ruling party of being "in campaign every day, stealing every minute and every second from the citizens."
