Alexandri sisters win free duet gold, complete European Championship double

Sisters Anna-Maria and Eirini-Marina Alexandri have achieved a historic double at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, securing gold medals in both the technical and free duet events. This remarkable performance marks a triumphant return for the athletes representing Greece, after a 14-year period competing for Austria.

The Alexandri sisters' latest triumph came in the free duet on Saturday, where their routines, inspired by "Swan Lake" and "the story of two vampire sisters," captivated judges. Following the competition, the emotional athletes shared their joy and dedication.

They noted that they had not competed in the free duet for two years and had only completed their choreography a month prior, managing their stress effectively to secure another European championship gold.

The sisters emphasized that medals are won through meticulous work and dedication, highlighting their extensive training with their coaches. They dedicated their gold medal to all of Greece, their family, coaches, and their uncle watching from above, especially to those who believed in them from the start. They also extended thanks to the Hellenic Swimming Federation and Hellenic Olympic Committee presidents, and the diving supervisor for their immediate support and motivation. The team is now looking forward to a break before preparing for major events in 2027.
