Alfaro moves the team again two days before the debut against the United States

Paraguay's national team coach, Gustavo Julio Alfaro, continued to shuffle his squad on Wednesday, just two days before their opening match in the 2026 World Cup against the United States. Alfaro introduced two new variations to the team's lineup during their fourth training session on North American soil, held at the Spartan Soccer Complex in San José, California.

The most notable change involved the offensive pairing alongside Antonio Sanabria. Alfaro rotated between Mauricio and Gustavo Caballero in the attacking third. The goalkeeping position remains a point of contention, with Orlando Gill, Gastón Olveira, and Roberto Junior Fernández all rotating through training. Currently, Gill appears to be the frontrunner for the starting role against the U.S.

Meanwhile, Julio Enciso is still working separately from the main group as he recovers from an injury. However, there is considerable optimism within the Paraguayan delegation regarding his physical progress. Expectations are high that he will be fit and available for Paraguay's second group stage match against Turkey.

The team, nicknamed La Albirroja, is scheduled for its final training session before the World Cup debut on Thursday, June 11. The session will begin at 9:00 AM local time, with limited media access during the initial part. Later that day, coach Alfaro is scheduled to hold a press conference accompanied by a player from the squad.
