Algeria Shocks Netherlands 1-0 in Friendly; Zidane Stars in Goal

Algeria secured a surprising 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in a friendly international football match held at Amsterdam's Feyenoord Stadium. Despite the Netherlands, ranked eighth in the FIFA rankings, launching 17 shots, it was Algeria, ranked 28th, that emerged victorious.

The decisive moment came in the 86th minute when Anis Hadj Moussa, a 24-year-old forward playing for Feyenoord, scored the game's only goal. Algeria's strong defensive performance was anchored by goalkeeper Luca Zidane, the second son of French football icon Zinedine Zidane. The 28-year-old Zidane, who recently recovered from a fractured jaw sustained in April, played with a protective face mask and delivered an impressive performance, making six crucial saves.

Luca Zidane, born in France to Algerian immigrant parents, has a complex international football history. While he represented France at the under-20 level, the path to the senior French national team proved challenging. Aiming to compete in the 2026 World Cup, Zidane switched his allegiance to the Algerian Football Federation last year. His father, Zinedine Zidane, famously captained France to victory in the 1998 World Cup on home soil.
