Alicia Silverstone to Reprise Cher Horowitz Role in New 'Clueless' Series

Paramount+ is reviving the beloved 1995 teen comedy "Clueless" as a new series, with original star Alicia Silverstone set to return. Silverstone will reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz, the fashion-forward and well-meaning high school princess from Beverly Hills. She will also take on a role behind the camera as an executive producer for the upcoming show.

The new series is planned to pick up approximately 30 years after the events of the original film. Cher Horowitz will be depicted as a successful businesswoman and a mother to a teenage daughter. The production is slated to begin filming in Los Angeles next year, according to industry publication Variety.

"Clueless," directed by Amy Heckerling, was a box office hit and has since achieved cult status. The film followed Cher's attempts to navigate high school, fashion, and romance, including her makeover project for the new student Tai and her complicated feelings for her ex-stepbrother Josh. Heckerling herself will also be involved in the new series as a producer.

Adding to the creative team are Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the duo known for their work on the popular series "Gossip Girl." The original film "Clueless" was recently recognized for its cultural significance, being added to the U.S. National Film Registry in January. Silverstone, who launched her career with the film, has since appeared in various other projects, including "Batman & Robin" and "The Killing of a Sacred Deer."
