Aliyu Badaki: FG Intensifying Efforts to Tackle Jet Fuel Crisis

Aliyu Badaki, President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), addressed the ongoing jet fuel crisis affecting the aviation industry. He stated that the Nigerian government, in collaboration with the aviation sector, is actively seeking ways to mitigate the adverse effects of the crisis, acknowledging it as a serious matter impacting the industry.

Badaki also provided an update on FTAN's Tourism Transformation Mandate (TTM). This plan, designed to advance Nigeria's tourism sector, is built on three pillars and eight campaign commitments. He affirmed that the TTM is "seriously on course," with current efforts focused on building a more robust foundation to enhance visibility and reputation. The federation is also working to harmonize various member associations and strengthen partnerships with corporate bodies and government agencies.

Since its global occurrence, the Nigerian government, in conjunction with the aviation industry, is looking at ways to mitigate the adverse effects. It’s really a serious matter that is affecting our industry.

Regarding global health concerns, Badaki commented on the outbreak of Hantavirus and Ebola announced by the World Health Organization. He noted that the Hantavirus outbreak is still under study and expressed hope for its containment by international health organizations. Badaki assured that Nigeria has well-trained medical personnel at its borders, ready to manage potential health risks.

The outbreak of hantavirus is still new and under study in the countries affected. We hope that it will be curtailed by the World Health Organisation and other international health organisations, and we cannot do much now until proper protocols are established by the relevant agencies. We have well-trained medical personnel at the borders- air, land and sea.
