Aliyu Zubair takes charge at Al Ahly Wad Madani ahead of CAF Confederation Cup

Nigerian tactician Aliyu Zubair has officially taken the helm at Sudanese club Al Ahly Wad Madani, signing a two-year contract. The unveiling ceremony took place in Kigali, Rwanda, where the team is currently training for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.

Zubair, who previously coached in the Egyptian second tier with Telecom SC, expressed his enthusiasm for the new role. "Al Ahly Madani is another huge challenge for me. It is a great club with rich history and high ambitions," he stated. He added, "I am looking forward to working with the players, the management and the fans to achieve our objectives, especially as the team prepare to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup."

The former Flying Eagles coach's immediate focus will be on the continental competition. Al Ahly Wad Madani will face Kenyan side Tusker in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. This appointment marks a significant step in Zubair's coaching career, which includes managing Nigerian clubs Gombe United and El-Kanemi Warriors. He led El-Kanemi Warriors to Federation Cup glory in 2024, and he now aims to leverage his domestic experience to achieve success for Al Ahly Wad Madani both in Sudan and across the continent.
