All 3 horror films top Vietnam's box office revenue

The Vietnamese box office is currently dominated by horror films, with "Ma xó" maintaining its top position for the second consecutive week. Released on June 12, the film has amassed an impressive 115 billion VND after just 10 days in theaters. "Ma xó" commands a significant portion of daily screenings, far surpassing its competitors and highlighting its strong audience appeal.

Notably, "Ma xó" is being recognized not just for its scares but for its emotional depth. Director Phan Bá Hỷ emphasized that the film's core strength lies in its portrayal of mothers and the human struggles with loss and sacrifice, blending suspense with a humane message. Actress Lê Khánh, in her first foray into the horror genre, delivers a restrained yet pivotal performance, guiding the narrative and unraveling the story's mysteries.

Following "Ma xó" is the South Korean zombie thriller "Colony: Bầy xác sống," which debuted strongly at second place, earning 28 billion VND during its opening weekend. Directed by Yeon Sang Ho, known for the global hit "Train to Busan," the film is set in a Seoul high-rise apartment building where survivors battle an evolving, organized zombie threat. The narrative centers on a man claiming to possess a vaccine, adding a layer of desperate hope to the intense escape sequences.

Rounding out the top three is "Lầu chú Hỏa," which garnered 26 billion VND in its opening weekend. This film employs a found-footage style, immersing viewers in the terrifying experience of a group of young streamers exploring an abandoned mansion haunted by a century-old curse. The shaky camerawork, flickering lights, and limited perspectives effectively amplify the sense of unease and horror, though its narrative complexity is noted as a potential limitation.
