DC Studios embarks on a new era of superhero storytelling with "Lanterns" (Linternas), a series premiering on HBO Max and HBO that diverges from traditional space opera to embrace a police drama structure infused with mystery and neo-western themes. Set in rural America, the show aims to offer a fresh take on the Green Lantern mythology.

The narrative centers on Hal Jordan, a seasoned Green Lantern Corps member, who takes on the role of mentor to John Stewart, a newly recruited Marine with intergalactic responsibilities. Their mission involves investigating a dark crime in Rushville, Nebraska, under the watchful eye of Sheriff Kerry Kane. As their local inquiry progresses, it uncovers a conspiracy with cosmic implications, blending grounded detective work with the expansive lore of the Green Lantern universe.

"Lanterns" is based on characters who have been a cornerstone of modern graphic mythology since their creation in the 1940s by artists and writers like John Broome, Gil Kane, Dennis O’Neil, and Neal Adams. The series' first season comprises eight episodes, with a weekly release schedule every Sunday. The premiere episode aired on August 16, followed by the second episode on August 23.

Episodes are released simultaneously on HBO's cable channel and the Max streaming platform.
