Ecatepec Firefighters Celebrate 50 Years of Service

The Ecatepec Fire Department marked a significant milestone, celebrating 50 years of dedicated service to the community. Local authorities, led by Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss, hosted a special tribute to honor the heroic efforts of the firefighters over the past five decades.

"Today I am here to recognize you who risk your lives every day for others. You are the first to arrive at any emergency, regardless of the time or the risk," stated Mayor Cisneros Coss during a ceremony at the Xalostoc fire station. The event also honored veteran firefighters, including Enrique Severiano San Agustín García, with 42 years of service, and Guadalupe Morales López, the station's first female firefighter, who has served for 26 years.

Cisneros Coss recalled the dire conditions the department faced when her administration began, noting "indignant" circumstances with firefighters lacking uniforms, protective gear, and adequate water for firefighting. She affirmed her commitment to improving their salaries, uniforms, equipment, and tools. The department's bravery was highlighted through their response to major incidents, such as the extensive fire at a clandestine recycling plant that threatened an overpass and a blaze at a rubber foam factory. They are also consistently on the front lines during flood emergencies and other risks, earning the deep respect of the public.
