All schools across Fiji closed today

All schools across Fiji have been closed today, Tuesday, June 16th, as severe weather conditions intensify nationwide. Heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and coastal inundation prompted the decision by the Ministry of Education, made in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office and the Fiji Meteorological Service.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro stated that the precautionary closure aims to minimize unnecessary travel and reduce risks to families. While earlier assessments suggested schools could operate normally, the significant deterioration in weather forecasts led to the nationwide closure. Tertiary institutions are advised to make their own decisions based on local conditions.
