Alleged drug trafficker caught with over 230 kilos of marijuana in Amambay

Authorities in Amambay, Paraguay, apprehended Jorge Palacios Villagra, 45, over the weekend for allegedly transporting a significant quantity of marijuana. The arrest occurred in Karapaí, where anti-drug police intercepted a Hyundai Tucson containing 235.5 kilograms of pressed marijuana. This bust is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

The operation, led by the National Police's Anti-Narcotics Department in Capitán Bado, utilized intelligence gathering to identify the vehicle used for transporting the illicit cargo. The seized vehicle, along with a cell phone and various documents, will be used as evidence in the ongoing criminal investigation. The marijuana was reportedly processed and ready for commercialization.

Villagra has been formally charged with possession and trafficking of narcotics. Given the quantity and readiness of the drugs for sale, the prosecutor's office has requested his pre-trial detention. The anti-drug prosecutor for Amambay, Rossana Coronel, stated that the suspect should be sent to jail to face the proceedings from within.
