Alleged Sinaloa Cartel leader arrested in southern Mexico

Authorities in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero have apprehended Jorge Luis ‘N’, also known as ‘El Choco’, who is alleged to be a plaza boss for ‘Los Rusos’. This group is reportedly an armed faction operating under the umbrella of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel in several municipalities.

The state Attorney General’s office announced the arrest, stating that Jorge Luis ‘N’ is suspected of involvement in the qualified homicide of a man on August 21 in Acapulco. The victim was reportedly shot and killed in the Las Playas neighborhood of the popular tourist destination.

Investigations suggest Jorge Luis ‘N’ held a leadership position within ‘Los Rusos’, specifically overseeing operations in the Caleta, Caletilla, and Las Playas areas of Acapulco. The coordinated operation leading to his capture involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the state prosecutor's office, state police, the National Defense Secretariat, the National Guard, the Navy Secretariat, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.

‘Los Rusos’ have been identified in Mexican media reports as an armed wing of the Sinaloa Cartel, primarily active in Guerrero and Oaxaca. This arrest follows another significant apprehension earlier in August, when ‘El 07’, a suspected member of the same group and implicated in the murder of a former municipal president, was detained. Reports also suggest that José Gil Caro Quintero, alias ‘El Chino’, a relative of cartel figure Rafael Caro Quintero, may lead ‘Los Rusos’ nationally.
