Alma Leigue Shines in Paraguay with Four Gold Medals and a Bronze

Six-year-old Bolivian gymnast Alma Leigue won four gold medals and one bronze at the South American Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championship, USAG levels, in Asunción, Paraguay.

The event brought together about 500 gymnasts from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and host country Paraguay. Competitors took part in vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercises.

Leigue, who represents the Gymnastics Learning Center, had already built a strong domestic record. In April, she became Bolivia’s two-time national all-around champion at Level 2 USAG during the Copa Élite in Cochabamba. She won gold in vault, bars, beam, floor and the all-around competition.

Her performance in Asunción adds international titles to that record and gives the young gymnast more experience outside Bolivia. She will return home with four gold medals and a bronze as she continues developing in the sport she began practicing at an early age.
