Alonso López Secures Pole Position with New Track Record

Spanish rider Alonso López will start from pole position at the Aragon Moto2 Grand Prix, marking his return to the top spot after three years. He also set a new absolute circuit record at Motorland with a blistering time of 1:49.405 during the official qualifying session.

López, who recently recovered from an injury, had previously led practice sessions in the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix. His record-breaking lap surpassed the time set by fellow Spaniard and current category leader Manuel González, who had recorded 1:49.597 in the second free practice session.

The qualifying session saw strong performances from several riders. Hispan-Colombian David Alonso, the 2024 Moto3 world champion, secured a strong position with a time of 1:50.295, his fastest of the weekend. He was followed by Turkish rider Deniz Öncü, 2025 Moto3 world champion José Antonio Rueda, and Italian Luca Lunetta.

During the final "time attack" phase, Adrián Huertas initially improved his time, followed by Joe Roberts. Czech rider Filip Salac also posted a competitive time, placing him ahead of Huertas and David Alonso, all of whom advanced to the second qualifying session. Ultimately, López's record-setting lap secured him the prime starting position, with Izan Guevara and Daniel Holgado rounding out the front rows.
