Alvarado leads Puerto Rico's basketball team for World Cup qualifiers

Puerto Rico's national basketball team, known as 'Los Doce Magníficos' (The Magnificent Twelve), has revealed its roster for the crucial upcoming FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers. Leading the squad is José Alvarado, the dynamic point guard for the NBA's New York Knicks.

The team is set to face Argentina on August 27 and Uruguay on August 31. This marks the fourth qualifying window for Puerto Rico, who currently sit in fourth place in Group F with a record of two wins and four losses. The qualifiers will be hosted in Qatar.

Alongside Alvarado, the roster features experienced players like Davon Reed and George Conditt IV. Notably, Daniel Rivera, who was named Rookie of the Year in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), will make his debut for the national team. Players Jezreel De Jesús, Alfonso Plummer, Gian Clavell, Ethan Thompson, Stephen Thompson Jr., Isaiah Piñeiro, Ismael Romero, and Arnaldo Toro are also returning from the previous window.

Puerto Rico will play both of these critical games on the road. The team is scheduled to convene in Argentina on August 24 to commence their training sessions in preparation for these important qualifying matches.
