Alvarez Drives in Four as Astros Shut Out Athletics 4-0

Yordan Alvarez powered the Houston Astros to a 4-0 shutout victory against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, driving in two runs with two doubles. The win helped the American League West-leading Astros bounce back from a significant 18-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels the previous night.

Alvarez, a Cuban player, is having a stellar season and currently leads the American League in multiple key offensive categories: batting average (.321), home runs (36), and runs batted in (90). His first double in the fifth inning gave Houston a 2-0 lead, and his 28th double of the season extended the advantage to 4-0 in the seventh inning.

Houston's starting pitcher, Hayden Wesneski (3-1), delivered a strong performance, allowing just one hit and striking out four batters over five innings. He was followed by four relief pitchers who successfully completed the combined three-hit shutout. Oakland's pitcher J.T. Ginn (8-8) struggled, giving up six hits and three runs while walking two batters in five innings. The Athletics have now lost five consecutive games.
