Amazon cargo plane crashes at Miami airport after leaving runway

An Amazon-branded cargo plane caught fire after leaving the runway at Miami International Airport, striking several vehicles and sending emergency crews to the scene. The aircraft landed after a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico, before coming to rest at the airport’s northwest end.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Prime Air Flight 7598 ran off the runway at about 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026. The aircraft was a Boeing 767-300 operated by the U.S. cargo carrier 21 Air under Amazon’s Prime Air brand.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said more than 60 emergency units were at the airport. Firefighters found the plane engulfed in intense flames and heavy smoke, and reported “multiple patients” at the scene. Authorities had not yet said whether anyone had died or provided an exact number of injured people.

Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said the company was working to support everyone affected. The airport said the plane remained immobilized at the northwest end of the airport after leaving a diagonal runway. All runways and taxiways were closed, triggering a full ground stop expected to remain in place at least until 4:30 p.m. local time.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said first responders were continuing to assess the crash site. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause. Images shared on social media showed the aircraft on a roadway, with its tail extending over the airport perimeter fence and black smoke rising behind it.
