Amazon cargo plane crashes into cars at Miami airport, killing five

Five people died when an Amazon Air cargo plane ran off the runway during an attempted landing at Miami International Airport and struck several vehicles. Five others suffered serious injuries, with three in critical condition, according to local officials.

The Boeing 767-300 crashed shortly before 2 p.m. local time after departing from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan. The aircraft, operated by North Carolina-based cargo carrier 21 Air, reportedly hit cars in a parking area.

Firefighters and rescue crews reached the crash site within seconds, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said. Some injured people remained trapped and had to be pulled from the wreckage. More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded, while thick smoke rose from the burning aircraft.

Officials said it was too early to determine the cause. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating, while the Federal Aviation Administration ordered flights suspended. Strong winds and a weak thunderstorm were present in Miami at the time. The incident caused flight cancellations and delays, leaving some passengers frustrated by the lack of information from officials.
