Ambassador's workload high, but no formal complaints: Lithuanian MP

Vilnius, Lithuania – Concerns regarding the conduct of Lithuania's ambassador to the United States, Gediminas Varvuolis, have surfaced, but official confirmation remains elusive. Remigijus Motuzas, chairman of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs (URK), stated that no official information has been received to substantiate allegations of misconduct.

Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (URM) have described the issues as "episodic" and primarily related to working conditions, rather than direct complaints about the ambassador's personal behavior. Motuzas indicated that while discussions have occurred with ministry leadership, the reported issues focus on aspects like overtime and heavy workloads.

He added that the General Inspector and the ministry's chancellor had contacted embassy staff, who mentioned "episodic" arguments concerning working conditions. However, "very specific (talk) about the ambassador's behavior – there are no such complaints as such," Motuzas clarified.

The situation highlights a gap between potential employee grievances and formal complaints lodged against Ambassador Varvuolis. While the ministry acknowledges issues related to the demanding nature of the diplomatic post, concrete evidence of misconduct attributed directly to the ambassador has not been officially presented to the committee.
