AMD to Invest Up to $5 Billion in AI Firm Anthropic

AMD has announced a significant strategic investment in artificial intelligence company Anthropic, committing up to $5 billion. This collaboration will see Anthropic utilize AMD's MI450 Series AI chips within its Helios data center solutions. The initial phase of this deployment, focusing on 1 gigawatt of capacity, is slated to begin in the first half of 2027, with a total capacity of up to 2 gigawatts planned.

Beyond the hardware integration, the two companies will embark on a multi-year engineering collaboration. This partnership will leverage Anthropic's Claude AI model to optimize workloads on AMD's AI chips. Concurrently, AMD plans to widely adopt Claude across its own engineering and product development teams, fostering a deeper integration of AI technologies within its operations.
