American Family Recovers Lost Wallet, Phones After Taxi Mishap in Busan

A family of American tourists visiting Busan experienced a moment of panic when they left their wallet and mobile phones in a taxi, but their distress was short-lived thanks to the swift assistance of local police.

The incident occurred on the evening of the 21st when patrol officers from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's foreign affairs unit noticed three visibly upset American tourists near Haeundae Beach. The family approached the officers for help, explaining that they had left behind a wallet containing over $3,000 and their mobile phones in the taxi they had taken.

Officers calmed the tourists and gathered details about the lost items and the taxi company. After identifying the taxi and repeatedly attempting to contact the driver, they confirmed the belongings were in the back of the vehicle. The police then arranged for the taxi to return to the family's location to hand over the recovered items.

Busan police established the foreign affairs unit in January to enhance security for the growing number of foreign visitors. The unit's officers not only facilitated the return of the lost property but also provided translation services regarding potential rewards for the driver.
