Ampem Darkoa stun Edo Queens in WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Ampem Darkoa Ladies ended Edo Queens’ perfect start in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, recovering from an early deficit to win 2-1 in Ouagadougou.

Edo Queens took the lead after 11 minutes through Doosuur Anastasia. The Nigerian champions appeared set to preserve their unbeaten record, but Ampem Darkoa equalized one minute into the second half and completed the comeback with 12 minutes remaining.

A dangerous free-kick from Milot Abena Pokuaa created trouble in the Edo Queens penalty area and led to the own goal that decided the match. The result gave the Ghanaian champions three wins from three group games, with seven goals scored and one conceded.

Hosts USFA also secured a semifinal place after beating ASKO de Kara 5-0. The result completed an unbeaten group stage for USFA and confirmed the semifinal line-up. USFA will meet Edo Queens, while Ampem Darkoa face FC Dynamique.

Ampem Darkoa enter their semifinal as the only team to have won every group match. FC Dynamique are still looking for their first goal of the competition. The two semifinal winners will meet in the final, with the WAFU B representatives moving closer to the continental stage.
