Amy Winehouse's Father Must Pay Over 1 Million Euros to Daughter's Friends After Losing Lawsuit

Mitch Winehouse, the father of the late Grammy-winning singer Amy Winehouse, has been ordered to pay approximately 1.1 million euros (950,000 pounds) to two of his daughter's friends. The payment is compensation following a legal battle over the sale of Amy Winehouse's personal items.

The dispute began when Mitch Winehouse, acting as the administrator of his daughter's estate, sued stylist Naomi Parry and Parry's former roommate Catriona Gourlay. He accused them of profiting from the sale of dozens of Amy's belongings at auctions in 2021 and 2023, claiming they owed his daughter's estate around 851,600 euros and had deliberately hidden the sales. The items included clothing, accessories, and a dress from Amy's final tour.

The claimant chose to bring an intrinsically weak claim, to pursue it aggressively and relentlessly to the end, and to make serious and unfounded allegations against the defendants.

However, the UK's High Court ruled in favor of Parry and Gourlay. Judge Sarah Clarke found that Mitch Winehouse had been aware of the sales from the outset and had pursued the case aggressively and unpleasantly. The friends defended themselves, stating the lawsuit stemmed from the father's "petty jealousy." The items sold had been gifts or loans from Amy to her friends during their years of friendship, and their sale had raised nearly 1.2 million euros for Amy Winehouse's estate, with 30% going to her foundation.
