An Giang police dismantle highway snatching gang

A gang accused of terrorizing motorists on highways in An Giang has been dismantled, with provincial police detaining five suspects for investigation on property-snatching charges.

The suspects are Nguyễn Nhựt Linh, 45, Trần Thanh Qui, 27, Danh Thái, 20, and two 16-year-olds identified as D.N.Q and T.H.Đ. The provincial Investigation Police Agency announced the arrests and prosecutions on Sept. 6.

According to the initial investigation, a series of snatch thefts recently occurred on National Highways 61, 63 and 80. The group allegedly used modified motorbikes to pull alongside people traveling on the roads and grab their belongings. Several victims fell onto the road, putting their health and lives at risk and causing public alarm.

The provincial criminal police department said it narrowed the investigation to a professional group that planned and prepared its attacks carefully. Officers identified and arrested the five suspects after collecting documents and evidence. During questioning, the group allegedly admitted carrying out multiple thefts since the beginning of 2026 in areas including Bình An, Châu Thành, Giồng Riềng and Long Thạnh. They allegedly sold the stolen property and shared the money for spending.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and will be expanded in accordance with the law.
