An 'Island of Eternal Youth' is Being Built: An Answer to the Popular Longevity Trend

Abu Dhabi is investing nearly $11 billion to transform Fahid Island into a unique 'island of eternal youth,' catering to the growing global trend of longevity and wellness. The project, spearheaded by government-owned developer Aldar Development, aims to create a luxurious enclave focused on the physical and mental well-being of its future residents. This initiative aligns with the UAE government's significant push into 'wellness tourism,' a sector experiencing increasing popularity among travelers prioritizing their health. The development will feature a specialized architectural approach designed to enhance resident well-being. Future inhabitants of Fahid Island will have access to a comprehensive range of facilities and infrastructure designed to promote physical fitness, mental health, and access to healthy food options, all intended to combat premature aging and professional burnout. The island is slated for completion in 2029. Fahid Island is designed to be highly walkable, with a 15-kilometer network of paths connecting all functional areas. A central 10-kilometer park will offer pedestrian and cycling routes, with over 70% of these shaded for comfort. For longer distances, residents can utilize eco-friendly public transport, water taxis, or electric vehicle charging stations. The development emphasizes ample personal space, with each resident allocated 7.5 acres of outdoor area. Green spaces, playgrounds, and recreational facilities will be abundant. The island will comprise three residential complexes offering eco-friendly apartments and villas, with all residences located within 250 meters of a green space. Property prices are expected to range from approximately $517,000 to $2 million. The island will also include entertainment and sports facilities, as well as a branch of the King's College.
